New Studio Space
Brantley and I have been working on a studio expansion since October, and it’s finally complete! Welcome to the new upstairs studio space!
Our house has one upstairs room that’s above the garage. It functions as our guest bedroom, and we’ve talked about getting a murphy bed installed for a while to make better use of the space.
The need became real within the last 12-months, as I started to outgrow my downstairs art studio. Prints were beginning to take over the dining table, and I was packaging paintings on the bed upstairs (I already keep all of my cardboard boxes in the attic).
So we came up with a plan to move my prints, stationery, and packaging and shipping materials upstairs; while also adding a hanging system to store paintings as needed.
We ripped up the carpet, installed laminate plank flooring, went antiquing for furniture, added shelves and worked with a carpenter to create a murphy bed that I can hang art on when it’s closed. While we were at it, we also decided to update the lighting and mirror in the upstairs bathroom.
In the end, we created a beautiful upstairs art business hub with:
A packaging and shipping station.
Organized print and stationery storage.
Space for big picture thinking, planning and dreaming!
Thus, freeing up the downstairs studio to create a more functional painting space!
Now Brantley and I both are enjoying the upstairs space so much more than when it was just a guest bedroom. The light is really lovely in the morning, making it a cheerful place to start the day. Brantley likes to enjoy his morning coffee upstairs, and I love working up there throughout the week.
