Into the Unknown

Something about this picture reminds me of the chalk scene in Mary Poppins, where Mary Poppins, Bert, Jane and Michael joyfully jump into a whole new world without a second thought.

Much like the characters make a big leap into the unknown, I’ve experienced a lot of change this past year, both good and bad. Though the pandemic has been filled with so much personal loss, it’s also brought me closer with my family in ways I could have never anticipated.

Change can be scary, but it can also be invigorating. As I look forward to my own “new beginning,” I’ve been thinking a lot about paths as I reflect on Proverbs 3:5-6, which says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

With yet another year coming to a close soon, I’m eager (and admittedly a little nervous) about what this new year will bring. While there is bound to be more loss — after all, that’s a part of life — I’m looking forward to discovering which new directions 2022 will take me.
