French Alps Commission

Ellen Coté and I started chatting via Instagram while I was painting in France as an artist-in-residence at Chateau Orquevaux. As it turns out, her mother has a few of my prints and decided to gift Ellen a custom painting. How sweet? Ellen and her husband went on an incredible trip to the French Alps, so I created a painting inspired by their travels!

Q: Why did you decide to commission a painting?

A: My mom gifted it to me as a housewarming gift. She knew my husband and I had bought our forever home and we wanted to start investing in art that is meaningful to us.

Q: What was your favorite part of the commission process?

A: Looking through photos from our vacation and choosing pieces to combine from elements of our trip, reliving the trip and then getting to see the piece come together. It felt very creative and also nostalgic, and the end result was like a unique piece of magic made just for us!

Q: Do you have any advice for someone considering booking a commission?

A: Really think about something that has meaning to your life, something you want to remember every time you look at the art, and don’t be scared to modify it to stray from the “original”— we combined two different locations into one painting because to us those were two elements of our trip that we wanted to remember as one that made the trip stand out.

Ellen is also an interior designer, so it is no surprise that her home is stunning! You can check out her work here. It was such a treat working together on this special project!
