Sarah Jane Collects: Kate Comen
I can’t remember where I first discovered Kate Comen’s work, but I followed along for a while waiting on just the right piece for our home!
I love all of work, but I’m particularly drawn to her drink paintings. Perhaps because I have an obsession with beautiful glassware?
Kate’s reflections and shadow work is stunning. I love when you look at a painting, and wonder how the artist accomplished a certain effect.
The composition of this painting speaks to my graphic designer heart, and I knew it would be perfect for our gallery wall!

“Kate graduated from Clemson University in the spring of 2019 where she got a BFA in Visual Arts. She grew up in Charleston and moved back here after college, due to the flourishing art scene. She knew from an early age that she wanted to pursue a career in art. She is inspired by the colors and textures found around the city. Kate works primarily with acrylic and gouache paint on wood panels. Her work tends to be focused on color, pattern, and the balance between abstraction and realism.”
